"Daddy, whatsa bastard?" Jade asked as Brian tucked her blankets in around her.
"Where did you hear that word?" Brian asked, startled.
"Aunty Mia told the hair lady that I was a …"
"Don't say it. I don't ever want to hear you say that word, do you hear me? It's a bad word."
"I'm bad?" Jade whispered her chin quivering.
Brian reached out and pulled his daughter into his arms "No baby, no your not."
"But Aunty Mia said..."
"That word, Jade, it's a really mean way of saying someone doesn't have a father, and that's not true, now is it."
"No I have my Papa." Jade said with a bright smile. "Can Papa come read me a story?"
"You bet baby. You lie down and I'll send your Papa in ok?"
"Ok daddy."
Brian walked out of Jade's bedroom and headed towards the kitchen where Dom and Vince were playing Cribbage. "Oomph" Brian grunted as he rounded the corner in the hallway and smacked into Leon.
"Sorry about that" Leon muttered. "I need to talk to you Brian. Mia did something today and I think you need to know about it."
"You mean calling Jade a bastard in front of her? Jade already told me."
"God no, I didn't know she did that. She asked the boys to call her mommy."
"She what!?!?!" Brian hissed.
"She was giving them lunch while you were registering Jade for kindergarten. I was at the backdoor., and was going to get something to drink. When I heard her tell one of the twins not to call her Aunty Mia anymore, that they should call her Mommy. She doesn't know I heard her. I was going to tell Dom, but I haven't seen him without Mia being in the room."
"Thank you Leon. I appreciate you telling me... Excuse me I have a phone call to make." Brian replied and headed towards the den. Mia was obviously having issues again. He was glad that her doctor's office had a 24-hour appointment desk, being attached to the hospital they offered appointments at all different hours.
// Dr. Gills appointment desk. How may I help you? //
"I need to make an appointment for Mia Toretto."
// One moment please… //
Brian listened to the clacking of keys as the receptionist typed away on her computer. Trying to figure out what was going on with Mia. The last couple years had been pretty smooth sure there were a few tense patches, but that got resolved fairly easy, but she'd never pulled this before.
// I'm sorry sir, I can't make an appointment for Ms. Toretto. Dr. Gill is no longer seeing her. //
"Since when? Look if he thought she was better, he was wrong. She needs to be seen again."
// Oh no, sir. Ms. Toretto has missed too many appointments with out calling and canceling. Dr. Gill only allows 4 before he stops taking appointments for the patient. He does give them the names of several other psychiatrists to choose from. //
"Thank you." Brian bit out as he hung up the phone. If she wasn't seeing Dr. Gill anymore who the hell was writing her prescriptions. Brian just couldn't deal with this again. Mia was going to have to move out.
Walking into the kitchen Brian went over to Dom and laid his arm across his husband's shoulders. Dom wrapped his arm around Brian's waist and pulled him down on to his lap, giving him an absentminded kiss on the cheek before returning his attention to the game at hand.
"Jade all tucked in?" he asked as he laid down his crib.
"Yes she'd like another hug from you and a story. It seems someone called her a bastard today and she's in need of a little reassurance after I explained that it was a bad word." Brian said as he glared at Mia. He stood up and placed a kiss on Dom's stubble roughened scalp before looking back at Mia. "I want you out of my house by the end of the month, and stay away from me and my children."
Dead silence descended around the room as everyone stared at Mia then Brian. Brian turned to leave when Mia finally opened her mouth.
"This is Dom's house not yours. You don't have the right to kick me out. I'm *his* sister." Mia hissed furiously. Who the hell did Brian think he was ordering her out of her home?
"Wrong!" Brian snapped "the minute Dom brought me and Jade into this house it became our home, I have every right. You many be his sister but *I* am his husband and if you think he'll choose you over his children you are greatly mistaken. I will not have you near my children. Who the hell do you think you are? Calling Jade a bastard, telling the twins to call you mommy!" When Brian saw her shock he snarled at her "Oh yeah I know about that. You are not welcome anywhere near my children. You don't want to make this an issue or I will have your ass on the curb and your shit piled around you by midnight, got it!" Brian stomped out of the kitchen. He headed towards the twins room, because watching them sleep always calmed him down.
"What the hell is going on Mia?" Dom demanded.
"Nothing" Mia responded. "I don't know. I've never seen Brian like this. You have to talk to him Dom; someone is obviously lying about me to him. I would never do that to a child, you know that." Mia pleaded.
Dom ran his hand across the back of his neck and gave a deep sigh. "Do not go near Brian or the children until I get this figured out." He said as he walked out of the kitchen.
Mia glanced around timidly at Leon and Vince. Not knowing what to say now. She calmly sat down to wait. Dom would fix this.
As Dom walked pass Jade's room his daughter called out to him.
"Papa?"
"Yeah baby, are you still up?" Dom asked as he paused in the doorway.
"Daddy said you would tell me a story."
Dom walked the rest of the way into the room. "So he did. What would you like to hear? "
"Where the wild things are? Please..." Jade said.
"Naturally" Dom replied as he got the favorite book and sat down on her bed. After reading the book with the requested voices and growls, Dom gave Jade a kiss on the forehead and wished her sweet dreams before leaving the nearly sleeping girl's room.
He found Brian in the nursery, holding Jacob in his arms and rocking the two-year-old. Squatting in front of the rocking chair and reaching up to stroke one of Brian's golden locks from his forehead he asked, "What's going on?"
Brian gave a deep sigh and seemed to clutch Jacob a little closer to him as he looked at Dom with a troubled look in his eyes. "Jade asked me what a bastard was tonight when I was tucking her in. When I asked her where she heard that she said that Mia had told the hairdresser that Jade was one. I was coming to talk to you about that when I ran into Leon, literally. He said he heard her tell the twins not to call her Aunty Mia anymore, but to call her mommy now. I tried to make her an appointment with Dr. Gills, and found out she hasn't been seen by him in months. That she'd missed too many appointments without calling in so he won't see her anymore. "
"Is it possible that Leon misunderstood? Maybe she's seeing a different doctor, we can check."
"I don't think Leon was lying. I saw her face when I said that Dom, she looked startled that I knew about it and guilty as hell. I'm not going to go through this again Dom. If you don't make her leave I'll take the children and leave. I won't have her near them anymore."
"Ok, babe, I'll make sure she's out by the end of the month. But I'm still going to make sure she's getting help and check up on her." Dom said as he gently took his son from Brian's arms. He gave Jacob a quick hug and a kiss on his dimpled cheek before laying the sleeping child in his bed. He reached out and grabbed his husband's hand and gave a tug urging Brian to follow him out of the nursery.
"She your sister, I get that Dom. I wouldn't expect anything less from you but I can't allow her to be around the children if she's not going to take her medication, see her doctors. I am not going to go through all this shit again." Brian said as Dom led him into their bedroom.
Dom watched his husband for a moment before opening his arms and pulling Brian against him. "It's going to be fine, love. "

"You know Dom's going to stand behind Brian, right? What the hell were you thinking Mia?" Vince asked.
"You're taking his side? How can you? I'm your girlfriend, *ME*. You're supposed to be on my side." Mia gasped.
"I don't want anything to do with this. We're through Mia." Vince responded.
"We're through? Just like that. No talking about what's wrong, nothing? It's just over?" Mia stuttered.
"No not just like that. This has been coming for two years. This is just the final straw. I can't take it anymore. Whenever I try to get close to you, you back off. You don't let me touch you, you hardly talk to me. And when you do it's always about the baby and how if I'd been more supportive. Well guess what even if I had wanted it from the word go nothing I could have done would have saved it. I'm tired of being treated like shit. I'm tired of not having a partner I can talk to. I'm tired of being in a relationship that is all about your pain. Move on, Mia, or go wallow in it. But leave me out of it." Vince answered her and then turned and left the room.
Mia looked over at Leon. "Well aren't you going to bitch me out to?"
"No, I think everyone else was pretty eloquent. I pity you. You're not the first person who ever lost a child or the ability to have them but you sure do act like you are." Leon tossed over his shoulder as he to left the kitchen and went in search of Vince.
The two had become close over the last couple of years. Leon would often fall asleep in Vince's bed after they spent the night talking. It was the first time since his father had molested him as a child that he had felt safe in another mans arms. Vince was a cuddler. He would curl around you and snuggle you into his chest. Leon just didn't know how Mia could push him away and treat him the way she did. Vince was rough around the edge, drank a bit more then he should true but the guy was loyal, protective and loving to those he cared for. If it had been him that had lost the baby you wouldn't have been able to get him out of Vince's arms. And that was the problem. He had fallen deeply for a very straight, not wanting kids man; where he had come to realize that he was not as straight as he thought, and really did want kids. Leon found Vince in his bedroom, lying on his bed. He knocked on the doorframe and walked in when Vince looked up, joining him on the bed.
"Hey man…" Leon started.
Vince gave him a lopsided smile "Hey yourself."
"You ok?"
"Yeah kinda relived actually." Vince said.
"You stuck it out a lot longer then I would have, You did try. So don't let her guilt you in to going back to her."
"You know Dom's not just my best friend. He's more like my big brother, almost a father to me. I promised him I'd take care of her, protect her. I just didn't want to disappoint him I think that's why I stayed as long as I did." Vince replied as he reached out and snuggled Leon into his arms. Vince had to admit that he loved having the man in his arms. He'd never really been attracted to men, but he couldn't deny that he was falling for the quiet man who had shared his bed more then Mia had in the last two years even if it hadn't been sexual.

"Good morning, Dom, looks like we're the first two up." Mia greeted her brother.
"Mia, I need to talk to you."
"Did you talk to Brian?"
"Brian wants you out of the house, Mia. He says you're not seeing Dr. Gill anymore. Jade says you told the hairdresser she was a bastard. And someone heard you tell the twins to call you mommy when you were giving them lunch."
"It's not true, Dom. I swear." Mia pleaded
"Then explain it to me, Mia. Not one of the people who have told me and Brian these things have anything to gain by lying."
"I wasn't the one who said bastard the hairdresser did. I didn't even realize Jade had picked up on it or I would have explained it to her. I don't know why anyone would tell you I told the twins to call me mommy, I didn't. And I didn't like Dr. Gill. I decided to see someone else." Mia said, sure that her brother would believe her.
"Who's your new doctor? Where's your prescription bottle so I can check the date on it?" Dom asked.
"I… I…" Mia stuttered.
"Yeah, I kinda figured. You have to be out of the house by the end of the month. I will help you and Vince find a place and I'll come around to check on you. But you're not to be around the kids unsupervised until both Brian and I are satisfied that you're back on your meds and seeing the doctor." Dom said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Vince dumped me last night." Mia mumbled.
"Yeah? Well I can't say I'm surprised. You've been treating him like shit for the last couple of years. Hell you're nicer to Brian then you are to him."
"Gee, thanks for your support." Mia grouched as she stormed out of the kitchen. Deciding she needed to talk to Vince. To convince him to come back to her she headed down the hall.
Leon didn't want to move. He had woken up about 10 minutes ago, deliciously warm and comfortable. Legs and arms tangled, snuggled into Vince's side. He could lay here the rest of the morning and be perfectly happy.
"So all those reasons you gave me last night were just a bunch of shit so you could take up with Leon. You *SONofaBITCH*" Mia screamed and rushed towards the intertwined couple on the bed.
Vince cursed; this was not how he had planned to wake up. Shoving Leon out of the way he grabbed the Hellcat that was launching herself at him. "Go get Dom!" he growled to Leon, as he restrained Mia who was struggling to get out of his arms and yelling at the top of her lungs.
"What the *Fuck* is going on?" Dom demanded as he rushed into the room.
"He left me for Leon! The lying bastard" Mia screeched.
"Mia! *ENOUGH*!" Dom roared.
Mia was so startled by Dom's shout that she instantly stilled. "Vince, what in the hell is going on?" Dom demanded.
"I don't know I was sleeping and then she was yelling and attacking us."
"Us?"
"Me and Leon. Leon came to check on me last night after I ended things with Mia. We fell asleep talking. Shit we were dressed and laying on top of the covers Dom. I never cheated on her. You know I wouldn't do that."
"They were wrapped around each other like Lovers!" Mia hissed.
"You know what Mia it doesn't matter if they were balling each others brains out. Vince broke up with you. He can sleep with anyone he chooses and I doubt he'd leave you for Leon and lie about it. If Vince was going to leave you for another person he'd tell you."
"Dom?" Brian asked from the nursery where he'd headed when all the commotion had started. After calming the twins down he stood in the doorway and waited for Dom to acknowledge him.
"Brian can you call Dr. Gill's office and tell them that you need to make an appointment for Mia, with anyone it doesn't have to be Dr. Gill. Let them know that she's gotten violent again."
"Yeah…" Brian said and went to make the call.
"No! no, I don't need to see a doctor!" Mia screamed renewing her effort to get out of Vince's arms. Dom calmly walked over and helped Vince restrain her.
Having listening to Brian's reciting of the mornings events. The doctor felt that Mia should be brought into the hospital for evaluation and started on her medications again. It was a real effort to get her out to the car. Dom had Mia's legs and Vince had her upper body and they had to carry her out. Dom ended up sitting in the back to stop her from getting out and leaving Vince to drive.

"I didn't mean to cause problems. Hell this isn't the first time we've fallen asleep like that. She's never noticed before." Leon told Brian as they headed towards the kitchen so Brian could make breakfast for the kids.
"I know, Leon. If it wasn't you it would have been Vince or Dom or, shit, the way I buttered my toast this morning. She's not on her meds. She's not seeing a doctor and we don't know how long this has been going on. It was just a matter of time until something set her off. That's why I wanted her to move out. I didn't want her going off on the kids. You feel guilty about it though. Maybe cause you wish Vince had left her for you?" Brian smiled at Leon as he measured the oatmeal.
"Maybe, but Vince and me… we wouldn't work out anyway, I want kids."
"So it has to be a woman? You couldn't adopt?"
"I think that's an excellent question." Vince said from the doorway. "Mia went nuts in the car. We had to turn around; we couldn't control her and the car. Dom wants me to call for an ambulance. Vince explained at Brian's startled look.
Leon looked at Vince in confusion as Brian headed for the phone. "You don't want kids. What good would adopting be?"
Vince opened his mouth just as he heard Dom shout for him. "We will talk about this later." Vince turned around and went outside to help Dom.
